Racheal Cogan is a composer and multi-instrumentalist originally from Australia.
Her educational background ranges from a music degree in performance and ethnomusicology at Monash University to individual periods of study in India, France, The Netherlands, and Greece, supported by The Australia Council for the Arts, Asialink and The Ian Potter Foundation.
Racheal has a strong performance background: her second album with the Greek group the haBiBis from Melbourne received an ARIA award for best World Music Album, she performed around Greece for two years with Ross Daly, and she was a musician in two Cirque du Soleil shows: Zaia and Totem.
She specialises in recorders and has spent her life developing techniques and a language on these instruments for a wide range of musical styles. From her collaboration with Swiss maker Geri Bollinger, she has a beautiful collection of larger modern style recorders with his innovative headpieces that allow for a wide range of expressive sounds.
She has been writing music all of her life, and has spent the last five years honing in on music production skills. Some of her more recent scores are published by Edition Tre Fontane in Germany. After living in so many different places and countries, coming to Montreal and working with La Hacienda Creative feels like coming home to a world full of insane instruments, ideas, and possibilities.
